No matter whether you make your own Beeswax Food Wraps (like a true Craftivist!) or purchase them ready made (Kitchen Ecowarrior!), you will need to know how to look after them to make them last
Here’s our TOP TIPS:
USE the warmth of your hands to gently mould the wrap around the food item, jar, or bowl. DO NOT SCRUNCH your wrap or you will damage the coating
WRAP cut fruit and vegetables, mushrooms, cheese, snacks and sandwiches, plus use to cover small jars and containers, salad bowls, leftovers, plates and platters of food. DO NOT WRAP RAW OR DELI MEATS
KEEP YOUR WRAPS COOL – hot water, food, ovens and microwaves will melt the wax coating
WIPE OVER OR GENTLY RUB with cool-warm soapy water and soft cloth to clean and AIR DRY. DO NOT IMMERSE IN WATER unless absolutely necessary to clean
USE DILUTE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SOLUTION for an extra clean. DO NOT USE ANYTHING ABRASIVE OR PUT IN DISHWASHER OR WASHING MACHINE!
STORE WRAPS FLAT to prevent permanent creases. Some clever people wrap them around an old cling wrap cardboard roll.
Your Beeswax Food Wraps will last a good 6-12 months following these tips. They make handy pot plant liners or use in the laundry or tool shed when too old for kitchen use. As long as they are made from pure cotton fabric, they are also fully compostable at the end of their life
